Easy Ways to Elevate your Home this Spring

Spring has a wonderful way of making us all feel a little more renewed.

We start to shake off the cold and darkness of winter and begin to feel more vibrant and refreshed. It is also a great time to think about refreshing or reinventing our home.

So there are some really easy and affordable ways to give our homes a bit of a Spring update.

Fresh Air

Let some fresh air into the home. Throughout the colder months we keep everything closed up and so there isn’t the same circulation of fresh outdoor air flowing through the home.

Open up the windows and a let that beautiful fragrant Spring air through the home. Even on those rainy Spring days I love to open up the windows. There is something so rejuvenating for the home about fresh spring rain and the wonderfully cleansed air it produces.

 The Deep Clean

Yes the good old ‘Spring’ clean which requires a bit more than your standard weekly tidy up. It is one that really lifts the dust a grime off everything in your home. You want to get to those items you just don’t normally get a chance to clean such as window sills and shutters, behind the sofa where you will find all sorts of things you didn’t realise were missing !

Getting into cupboards and giving them a sort out and even taking everything out so you can clean all the surfaces down.

It can be a tiring task so tackle one area each week but the results are worth the effort.

Vases of Fresh Flowers and Green Leaves

Having fresh flowers in the home every day does not need to be an expensive luxury.

You can pick up a bunch from your local market and then split them up into many smaller vases for around the home.

Consider adding simple greenery from your own garden as a way to bulk up the flowers or even to have just on their own.

A lot of the time just some wonderful green branches off a tree sitting in a vase can look so fresh and sculptural and need not cost anything at all !

 Plants and Plants

Recently just as Spring started I found myself accessing all our indoor plants. I am obsessed with plants but I felt they had been a bit neglected and I also needed to do some consolidating. There were just too many bitsy pots everywhere !

Some plants I decided to move out into the garden and the others I moved into different locations and even created collections of them sitting together. It has really given the room a new look and feel. Just by simply moving the plants around really freshened up the space.

Changing Floor Rugs

Now this may seem a bit luxurious – A: to have the budget to buy multiple rugs and also B: to have somewhere to store the ones which are not in use.

However rugs don’t have to be expensive and if you do have some spare sneaky storage like under a bed or behind a sofa or even some space in the roof it is great to have a couple of spare rugs.

For Winter I like to layer up the rugs over each other to create a super cosy and eclectic vibe in a room.  Introduce richer colours and patterns and maybe throw in a shaggy Moroccan rug over the top

Then in the Summer consider lightening up the look with less rugs in more neutral contemporary styles. Lighten up the feel of the room with a simple sisal or a lovely faded distressed Oushak rug.

I think I need to write a whole separate journal post on Rugs along with some great places to source them !!

 Moving Furniture Around

This is a really affordable way to make a room feel refreshed and reinvented.

Simply try moving your furniture around into different places to change up how the space works and feels. There may be some pieces of furniture you just can’t move such as a large heavy cabinet or where your entertainment unit and TV are fixed but by moving smaller items such as chairs and occasional furniture you can achieve a new look for your home.

Change up your cushions and decorative by moving them into different places and even different rooms. Store some decorative away for next season and pull items out of cupboards which have not been on display for a while. Have fun with it and get creative with mixing and moving pieces around.

Trying these different ways to freshen up your home achieves not only outward results for your interior but you will also feel inner transformation. It can be a great way to boost your energy levels and feelings of positivity.
