Hello from week 20 something of working from home ?!

I have lost track of the weeks and simply not counting anymore !

For a while now, a lot of us have had to adapt to working from home and navigating this new landscape with all the challenges it throws at us.

Some of us were already working from home so it is not such new territory however we may have only be the one person in a household doing this. Now everyone is under the same roof due to the Covid lockdown in place and trying to find their spot to set up remote work or remote learning. It can get a tad hectic !

Working from home has it challenges. You want to try and keep work separate from home life but it can be easy to get distracted by the household around you.

Many of us don’t have the luxury of separate study spaces in our homes or even ample space to set up a remote office situation, so we need to be resourceful with what we have.

You may need to set up office at the kitchen bench or on the dining table, perhaps even steal away a small corner area of a room. Or just stay in bed and work from there – not a bad option on some days!

However space challenged your home office situation may be, your remote work experience does not need to be void of both functionality and super stylish cuteness !

Whether you need to utilise some of the dining table or set up a small desk nook in the hallway or corner of the living room, think about how you can afford to visually zone this area for your designated work area. Also consider how when you are able to finish your hours of work you can easily break away from that space mentally and feel like you have a home to retreat to.

Rooms can work successfully as multipurpose spaces with clever and creative design.

These are some ideas you may want to try to give your remote work zone a lift.

Add some lovely accessories such as a desk pad and pen pot for clear and practical organisation.

Good lighting is important so place a lamp. Lamps can provide good task lighting but they can also be a lovely aesthetic element. Whether you opt for a modern task lamp or a more decorative type with a base and shade the ambience of light is not only practical but also mood boosting.

Have some organisation such as trays or files for paperwork and folders. Storage is important but not always abundant. Perhaps there is some existing storage space which can be utilised to pack away your work so you can easily make that mental separation of work from home.

Have some smart looking boxes or baskets to easily stow it away work items which you can then access when needed.

Add some freshness to your work space with a plant or a small vase of cut flowers – never underestimate the power of plant life in your home and its benefits on your wellbeing.

Also never underestimate the power of scent. I love having plenty of scented candles on hand to burn (safely!) in any room of the home including your home office or work desk space !
